Hi, my name is Beth Brown, and I am the Executive Director of Tymeless Hearts and the mom of Ethan who was born May 3, 2006 with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Like many heart families I have met, I had never heard of CHD before Ethan’s diagnosis so a big part of Tymeless Hearts is spreading awareness.
I will never forget going into my ultrasound excited to find out if I was having a boy or a girl to come out in tears because I would have to go to a bigger hospital to find out what was wrong with my baby. I lived in Murray, KY at the time so I was sent to Vanderbilt where my fears were confirmed: my baby would be born with HLHS, which is basically half of a heart. The doctor at Vanderbilt said we would need to go to another hospital because they could not at that time do Ethan’s surgery. We traveled back and forth between Murray, Nashville, and Ann Arbor, Michigan for alll kinds of appointments. We stayed in hotels when the Ronald McDonald House was full and ate out due to not being able to cook in a hotel room. I realized how difficult and expensive all of this is especially when you have to do it for weeks and months at a time so I knew I wanted to help other families with this struggle during an already difficult time.
Ethan only lived for 3 months and while I am heart broken I am also thankful for every second I had with my beautiful baby. While I do try to remember the sweet moments, I will never forget the day I had to call 911 or the last time I held my baby before they put him back in his casket and closed the top. That was a long time ago, but for us heart angel moms we all miss our babies regardless of the time.
Ethan was our original motivation to start Tymeless Hearts when we saw there was a huge need to help heart families. Now Tymeless Hearts is motivated by many heart warriors and heart angels who we are blessed to be able to help with a variety of needs.
